We couldn’t wait for the winter break to be over so we could visit the children in Plovdiv! During the first days of January we met the children from one kindergarten and one school in the Plovdiv region. The kids were happy to meet us and we talked about the endangered red-breasted goose, where it lays its eggs, where it goes for the winter, how we can help protect it and why.
The ‘NATURA 2000 in Bulgaria - NEW HORIZONS’ project team visited the young explorers from the Secret Garden Montessori House in the village of Brestovitza. The kids met our famed traveler - Brent, the red-breasted goose, we made our own miniature Brent models and everyone got a ‘The Adventures of Brent, the Red-breasted Goose’ book for kids. The kids were so enthusiastic, they started reading it together in class.
Our educational activities continued with the first graders from the ‘Victoria and Krikor Tyutyunzhian' Armenian school in Plovdiv. The children and their teacher were very welcoming and we even got a present - everyone had prepared a wonderful picture - a gift for our team. We were extremely enthusiastic and happily told the children the most interesting facts from the red-breasted geese’s lives. The children met Brent, the red-breasted goose and made little Brent decorations while listening to the sounds of a flock of geese.

Red-breasted Goose
The Red-breasted Goose is a globally endangered species, protected within the Natura 2000 ecological network. Bulgaria is an important country for the protection of the species - almost the entire world population spends the winter in the region of Primorska Dobrudzha.
