The Green Balkans team visited the first graders from the ‘Vasil Petleshkov’ Primary school to talk about wetlands and their inhabitants. We gave a presentation and the children learned about wetlands, the threats for them and their rich biodiversity including some of the peculiar plants and animals that live there.

Our friend Brent, the Red-breasted Goose model, was also with us, to help us show children how this small species flies over 8000 km from Siberia to Bulgaria, what it eats and how important wetlands are for the small goose. And since Plovdiv is a long way from Dobrogea, where the Red-breasted Geese winter, we also talked about some local inhabitants of the Maritsa River.

All children received a book separator with interesting photos of animals, protected within the Natura 2000 network and we also gave a photo album about the Red-breasted Goose, an educational game about the Natura 2000 species and the ‘Adventures of Brent – the Red-breasted Goose’ book for the whole class.

We’d like to thank Ms Lili Foteva for inviting us and to all children for being so curious and wonderful. We’d like to meet you once again and learn more about Bulgarian nature together.
