Last weekend, our team conducted a monitoring of wintering waterfowl in Coastal Dobrudzha together with the student club "Barbatus" at Trakia University, Stara Zagora. Winter is the season in which many bird species arrive in our country from the north to spend these unfavorable months in relatively milder conditions. A team from Green Balkans conducts annual monitoring of the species composition, numbers, and habitats during this delicate period. A greater focus falls on wintering goose species, and especially the globally endangered species of Red-breasted goose.

In environmental conservation and research activities, continuity is important. That is why we also conduct practical training for young future specialists. Such are the students from Trakia University, who spent the rainy and cold weekend in the field with our experts to learn the intricacies of monitoring and researching waterfowl in general.

The young hopes of nature conservation visited the lakes in Coastal Dobrudzha and observed the birds wintering there. They determined species and numbers, met rare visitors to the region, and created unforgettable memories. They learned more about modern tracking methods using GPS transmitters and the amazingly long and exhausting migrations that geese make.
